Said little Missy I’m over here Been waiting on you for many a year Take me home, love me please I’m the sweetest little thing that you ever did see Told some tales in my time Stories spun these strings of mine Brought to life through many hands In mountains, bars and far-flung lands A hundred years I’ve travelled this world Across the land and the seas my girl A hundred years I’ve made my sound A hundred years I’ve been lost and found …Lost and found No records kept when I was made No one knows where first I played Got a number on my back Nobody knows much more than that Parts of me they’re lost for good But there lie memories in this wood Taken apart, put back whole Never lost my heart, never lost my soul A hundred years I’ve travelled this world Across the land and the seas my girl A hundred years I’ve made my sound A hundred years I’ve been lost and found …I’ve covered some ground A hundred years, a hundred years, oh oh a hundred years A hundred years, a hundred years, oh oh a hundred years Oh the things I’ve seen and the tunes I’ve played Lost count of all the friends I made Where they are now you never can tell Some will be in heaven, the best will be in hell Yes little Missy I’ve seen it all The poor can rise and the rich can fall The bad do good and the good do bad Can all depend on the luck you’ve had A hundred years I’ve travelled this world Across the land and the seas my girl A hundred years I’ve made my sound A hundred years I’ve been lost and found …Now to me you’re bound

Oh oh watch your bridges burn Don’t you look behind you boy, don’t you ever learn? Oh oh watch your bridges burn Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? You know that someone saw you boy, no hiding what you done Break your mama’s heart again boy always on the run Run into the city boy, run into the hills Running round in circles boy, you know you always will Oh oh watch your bridges burn Don’t you look behind you boy, don’t you ever learn? Oh oh watch your bridges burn Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? You’ve always been a rolling stone boy, never staying still You go in for the battle scar, but never for the kill When’d you stop believing boy, when’d you lose the fight? Can’t turn back the clock now boy go back and make it right Oh oh watch your bridges burn Don’t you look behind you boy, don’t you ever learn? Oh oh watch your bridges burn Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Oooo…. The storm is coming, can you hear the distant thunder? And the tide is swelling and it’s gonna drag you under You thought that you could hide it boy, take them for a ride But the truth will come out in the wash with the turning of the tide Oh oh watch your bridges burn Don’t you look behind you boy, don’t you ever learn? Oh oh watch your bridges burn Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Mama always said that there’s no smoke without the fire And in your rear-view mirror boy the flames are getting higher Why’d you strike the matches boy, why’d you light the fuse? Freedom doesn’t have to just mean nothing left to lose Oh oh watch your bridges burn Don’t you look behind you boy, don’t you ever learn? Oh oh watch your bridges burn Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Didn’t your mama tell you boy, the tide will turn? Oh….

Takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Used to be a good girl, never was a saint But I used to be a good girl, played it pretty straight Now he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the devil from takin’ me down Used to know what balance was, used to have a goal But the scales they have tipped now the Devil’s got my soul And he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Smokin’ and drinkin’ and paintin’ the town Paintin’ it red, paintin’ it red It’s the colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head (Deeper deeper deeper down) Used to have it figured out, used to have it made But the Devil swapped the cards in the hand that I played And he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Build up my defence, try to keep a poker face But the Devil’s judge and jury and I’m losing this case Yeah he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Smokin’ and drinkin’ and paintin’ the town Paintin’ it red, paintin’ it red It’s the colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head (Deeper deeper deeper down) Takin’ me down, Takin’ me down Deeper deeper deeper down Deeper deeper deeper down Deeper deeper deeper down Need to get back to where I used to be But the Devil well it seems he’s other plans for me Yeah he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Don’t know what to do so I’ll have another drink And the Devil he’s laughing as he’s watching me sink Yeah he’s takin’ me down, takin’ me down Can’t stop the Devil from takin’ me down Smokin’ and drinkin’ and paintin’ the town Paintin’ it red, paintin’ it red It’s the colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head Colour of the Devil and he’s in my head (Deeper deeper deeper down)

about

'Smart and sassy... a distinctly promising debut' - Maverick magazine

If you'd told me a few years back that I'd end up playing a banjo and writing songs on it I'd have just laughed at you. I still find it weird. It's not exactly a little girl's dream is it? It's not something I've done since being small. I'd tried a couple of instruments when I was younger and was always pretty rubbish. So I abandoned music for a long time and focused on other creative (but equally non-profitable) endeavors. Then for some strange reason a few years ago I decided to buy a banjo and found that after a while I could just about play well enough to enjoy it - and, miraculously, for other people to enjoy it. Then I threw my life up in the air, started writing songs and that was it... early midlife crisis that stuck, and suddenly everyone was calling me 'Banjo Jen'!

So this is my debut EP as Banjo Jen! I've got loads more songs which I hope to get recorded in the not-too-distant future, but these are the early ones that I started with. And I'm pretty proud of them so I hope you like them. The EP features my amazing double bass player Johnny Griff and the magic production of Mark Stoney. I play the traditional 'frailing' style of banjo, but am influenced by lots of different stuff so I hope that I push the boundaries of peoples' traditional banjo expectations / assumptions a bit and am one small step closer on my mission of making banjo (slightly) cool.

The 'Lost & Found' title comes from the first track on the EP. That's quite a literal track about an old banjo, but the more subtle (and cheesy!) subtext behind the title is that before I discovered I could write songs and perform them, I was definitely a bit lost. And not that I'm 'found' in any profound way (far from it), but I do feel like I've found what makes me tick and maybe what I was supposed to have a crack at in this crazy old life!

Thanks for your support. Hope you can come along for the rest of the ride :)
