about
This is the first song I ever wrote ...coinciding with the early midlife crisis of throwing my settled life up in the air to run away and join the circus (well OK, to play banjo, but it's virtually the same thing!). I wanted the track to sound like a traditional old-timey song and managed to get the fabulous John Fermer to play some great old-timey fiddle on it. We recorded it with all musicians playing live in the studio at the same time and I love the natural result.
lyrics
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl there’s a cold wind comin’ and the fire’s blown out and died
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl the cracks are showin’ better run little girl and hide
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl can’t smile no more and pretend that you never lied
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl from the waves of doubt that swallowed you in their tide
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl from the eyes of those who said it was wolf you cried
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl you were never gonna win no matter how hard you tried
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl gotta keep on runnin’ from the demons in your mind, yeah
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide
Run little girl don’t you know you’re runnin’ to a place you’ll never find
There’ll come a day, can’t run no more, ain’t nowhere left to hide
There’ll come a day, you find a way to heal your wounded pride girl
There’ll come a day can’t run no more ain’t nowhere left to hide
There’ll come a day you realise girl …we were always on your side

Banjo Jen’s eagerly-awaited second EP
‘Cloud of Dust’ is out now! A collection of the more country-style songs in her repertoire, it features a full band (including backing vocals by Bob Harris Emerging Artist 2022 award-winner Lauren Housley) and is produced by AMA UK award-nominee Thomas Dibb....more
Lauren has a gorgeous soulful voice and crafts beautiful songs, brought to life with the help of her multi-talented husband Tom. They are also just fab human beings. Check out this amazing album! Banjo Jen
Gemma Gray fronts the December Flowers. She's an amazing singer and a fab songwriter, and the band really bring the songs to life with their gorgeous instrumentation. I can't wait to hear more. Banjo Jen
Mark Stoney provided the production magic on my Lost & Found EP (a radical departure from his usual style!). But he's also simply one of the greatest song-writers ever, as 'More Than Animals' prooves. Banjo Jen
