Whisky Feet 03:23
My head’s spinnin’ round and I don’t know what to do The whisky it ain’t strong enough to make me forget you Never been a thinker, my heart it rules my head But I’m a damn good drinker and it’s gonna see me dead (Chorus) Now I can’t walk in a line and my eyes ain’t seein’ straight You know that come the morning I’ll be wakin’ in a state The bottle’s lyin’ empty, I must have had a few And I curse my whisky feet they’re gonna walk me back Walk me back to you The whisky’s runnin’ through my veins now I can’t feel my hands Between you and the demon drink you ruin all my plans Every time I think I’m in control and I am strong The whisky rears its ugly head and tries to prove me wrong (Chorus) Between you and the whisky, you got me on the line I know I should head on home when it’s closin’ time But somethin’ in my head it says just have a little more And then my whisky feet they find their way back to your door Oh I wish I was sober, then you could go to hell ‘Cause baby I ain’t interested in what you got to sell But now I’m steamin’ drunk and well you know that means you win ‘Cause my whisky feet are gonna find your frickin’ door again (Chorus) Now they’ve found your door again just like they always do I curse my whisky feet they’ve gone and walked me back to you

Fine Line 03:30
Never was gonna settle down Like a bullet from a gun I would leave this town A cloud of dust behind me as I flew Nothing could make me stay behind No nothing would make me change my mind I turned around and I caught a glimpse of you Standing there with your scruffy hair And your big brown eyes and a longing stare You stood right in my path and said 'don't go' You took me in your arms, you took me to your bed You stole my heart, messed up my head Showed me a love I never thought I'd know (Chorus) And it's a fine line baby Between falling in love and going crazy The line ain't straight, twisting all the time Lines get blurred and lines get crossed Soon we're mourning a love we lost It's a fine line baby, a fine line The seasons came, the seasons went And I still dream about those days we spent Just hanging by the river out on the edge of town Young and free as the birds above Yet somehow trapped by the chains of love Forgot our wings and found we had settled down Looking back now it's hard to believe How I didn't see it coming that I'd have to leave Break your heart to go and find my way The bullet from the gun was caked in rust And I had to go and make my cloud of dust It's better late than never, so they say Chorus And it's a fine line we're walking through the tangle of our hearts It's a fine mess we're making trying to mend the broken parts It's a fine love we had but all good things come to an end And it's a fine line we've walked through life my friend Chorus

English Bay 04:05
Walking back home on the Granville bridge, city skyline gleaming up ahead Hearing the water flowing under me, clearing the day’s thoughts from my head There’s a sex shop every other store, and there’s panhandlers and addicts trying to score But I miss those crazy streets and all the colour that they brought On the walk home back to my door (Chorus) Take me back to English Bay I’m tired and broke but I’ll find a way To get me back so I can stay Watch the sun go down on English Bay Walk along the beach in the morning mist, catch the boat to work across the creek Tourists, commuters and dogs in funny sweaters all making their first journey of the week And we go our separate ways upon the shore, and I’d do my long day’s work in the store And I miss those crazy characters that I’d meet every day Though I hear that store ain’t round there anymore Chorus And Inukshuk stands proud over the sand Welcoming all travellers to the land This land his people used to roam So freely. Their home. Their home Walk through Stanley Park in the evening shade, stop to smell the cedar and the pine Grab a dollar pizza on the way through town, head to Nelson café for some wine Then end up in the Roxy for the night, and drink our cares away ‘til the morning light And I miss those crazy nights and all the promises we made Of how we’d never grow old or lose the fight Chorus
4.
Well I saw you at the bar and you weren’t wearin’ a ring A sideways glance, a little smile, turned into a drink You said that you were single – I guessed it wasn’t true But I left my morals at the door the night that I met you Well one night turned into two and two became a week You said that you were happy, and you left her for me You said I was the angel that you’d been lookin’ for But somethin’ told me pretty soon you’d fly back out the door (Chorus) Shoulda read between the lines when you crept between the sheets If you could go behind her back, you’d do the same to me Shoulda known I’d never win when playin’ with a cheat Shoulda read between the lines when you crept between my sheets You crashed into my heart like a truck without a break You gave me some good lovin’ but took all that you could take I thought that I could be the one to change your cheatin’ ways But I guess I shoulda listened to what mama always says… That a leopard don’t change his spots …and you don’t change your shirt The lipstick marks, the perfume smell – the cheater’s kinda dirt How could I be so foolish to think that you’d be true When the writin’ was on the wall the night that I met you Chorus There’s winners, and losers But all is fair in love and war Cheaters, and users And fools like me keep coming back for more …Well not this time When you get home tonight, don’t expect a smile And if you do you might be walkin’ funny for a while ‘Cos I am here to tell ya that I won’t take no more And on behalf of all the girls I’m settlin’ the score So your guitar’s on the fire, and your clothes are in the yard And you sure as hell don’t wanna see what I’ve done to your car! I know I should be grown up, and I should wish you well But all I’ll say is Mr I will see you down in hell! Chorus

Run 02:50
Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl there’s a cold wind comin’ and the fire’s blown out and died Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl the cracks are showin’ better run little girl and hide Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl can’t smile no more and pretend that you never lied Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl from the waves of doubt that swallowed you in their tide Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl from the eyes of those who said it was wolf you cried Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl you were never gonna win no matter how hard you tried Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl gotta keep on runnin’ from the demons in your mind, yeah Run, run, run little girl, run little girl and hide Run little girl don’t you know you’re runnin’ to a place you’ll never find There’ll come a day, can’t run no more, ain’t nowhere left to hide There’ll come a day, you find a way to heal your wounded pride girl There’ll come a day can’t run no more ain’t nowhere left to hide There’ll come a day you realise girl …we were always on your side

about

Well, it's finally here! My second EP 'Cloud of Dust' is a collection of the more country-style songs in my repertoire. Recording was postponed three times due to the pandemic, but we got there eventually!

'Produced by AMA UK award-nominee Thomas Dibb, 'Cloud of Dust' features a full band, with backing vocals from ‘Bob Harris Emerging Artist 2022’ award-winner Lauren Housley. The tracks were recorded in a traditional country style, with the core musicians playing together in the studio rather than to click tracks, and lead vocals recorded during the live takes – giving the recording an authentic, live feel. ‘Fine Line’ – the first single to be released from the EP – is a melodic, pedal-steel-and-harmony-infused tale of love, loss and letting go, whilst the follow-up single ‘Whisky Feet’ is a fun, foot-stompin’ slice of country blues. ‘Between the Lines’ is a humorous nod to the classic 70’s country cheating songs, whilst the more personal and reflective ‘English Bay’ explores a contemporary folk-Americana sound. The final song on the EP, ‘Run’, is the first song Jen ever wrote, inspired by old-time Appalachian tunes and hinting at the time of upheaval in her life which sparked what she calls the early mid-life crisis (when she picked up a banjo and began the exciting – but cripplingly unprofitable – journey to becoming a singer-songwriter!).'
